Why IQVIA?

Growth IQVIA Healthcare

Since I shared that I’m joining IQVIA, the question I get the most is: why IQVIA?

The short answer surprises people. I didn’t find IQVIA two months ago. I picked it three years ago.

In two weeks I start. So before day one, here’s the long answer.

Three years ago, when I decided to pivot into health tech, I did the most obvious thing: I looked at the companies I already knew.

One of the directors of the master’s program I was doing worked at IQVIA at the time.. That’s how it got on my radar.

The more I read, the clearer it was. If I was going to rebuild my career in healthcare, why not aim for the company that leads the world in healthcare data and clinical research? It made sense. So that became the target.

I wasn’t ready, so I got ready

Knowing where you want to go and being ready to get there are two different things.

So I went to learn as much as I could. At Roche I got the training ground I needed: a regulated healthcare environment, teams that set the bar high, and a role that mixed analytics with documentation and data governance. Then a move into Patient Insights Mobile Engineering which enhances my mindset for agentic engineering and testing.

Roche was never a waiting room. It was the best preparation I could have asked for, and I’m grateful for every bit of it.

What closed the circle

In January, IQVIA was named to the Fortune® World’s Most Admired Companies™ list and ranked No. 1 in its sector for the fifth consecutive year. Ninth year in a row on the list, and first in 7 of the 9 attributes, including innovation and people management.

When I read it, it felt like someone checking my homework from three years ago. 👀

At the end of last year I wrote that I was arriving in 2026 ready to close the loop. This is the loop:

🔵 Three years ago, I knew where I wanted to be.

🔵 At Roche, I learned as much as I could.

🔵 Now I get the role I wanted, at the company I wanted in the first place.

Software and AI engineering at the world’s healthcare intelligence leader

This is the part I really want to make a point on.

IQVIA describes itself as a leading global provider of clinical research services, commercial insights and healthcare intelligence: around 91,000 people in more than 100 countries.

Healthcare intelligence is where data, clinical research and AI meet. That’s exactly where I want to build software. Not AI for slides and buzzwords, but AI that ends up close to patients, the reason I wrote that this is why I chose health tech.

Two weeks to go

If you’re thinking about a pivot, here’s the one thing I’d take from my story:

Pick the place you want to be, even if you can’t get there yet. Then use every role in between as preparation, not as a waiting room.
